A Vaccine For Hypertension? PDF Print E-mail
Image British Scientists have developed a Vaccine to control High Blood Presssure.
British based pharmaceutical company Protherics have announced that they have completed successful human testing of a new vaccine which can reduce and control hypertension. The jab, which only needs to administered every six months, may be of benefit for the large numbers of people who are prescribed anti-0hypertensive medication yet fail, fro one reason or another, to take it.

Subjects report few side effects though about 10 percent did experience a brief flu like illness. It is expected that initially a patient will be given an intial course of three or four injections with about 7 to 14 days between treatments during the intial phase. After that a repeat "booster" every six months or maybe even longer will be all that's required to keep blood pressure within safe limits.

A Zurich based company Cytos Biotechnology is also developing a similar vaccine as part of a range to sure a number of common ailments such as obesity and flu. These will also be of benefit to those who suffer side effects from conventional anti-hypertensive medications.

The jab will be offered privately at first until such time as the NHS decides that the benefits of prescibing this new form of treatment outweigh the costs

This new vaccine should be on the market within five years.
